Mount K2 ( mount k2, also known as mount qogir ) is in the Karakoram range of mountains.

It is located in Baltistan region of Pakistan and China border. It lies in Baltistan, a district in the Gilgit–Baltistan territory of Pakistan.

Mount K2 is the second-highest mountain on Earth, and also the second-tallest freestanding mountain in the world. The exact height of mount k2 has not been determined but it has been calculated to be 8,611 metres (28,251 ft).

Since mount k2 is an incompletely surveyed mountain there are various estimates for mount k2 height.

The mountaineer Nikolai Przhevalsky estimated its height in 1883 as 8,582 metres (28,209 ft).

Montgomerie's calculations were very close to the mark when considering that mount k2 is also known for its unpredictable weather conditions and high mount altitude. The mountaineer Reinhold Messner proposed in 1995 mount k2 's elevation at 8,611 metres (28,251 ft) and this figure is widely accepted by many other sources such as CNN.

Mount k2 is located in mount k2 Karakoram range of mountains and it has three main summits.

The first climb to mount k2 was made by an Italian group lead by mountaineer and explorer Luigi Amadeo di Savoia, the Duke of Abruzzi

It was not until July 31, 1954 that mount K2 was climbed successfully by Hermann Buhl , an Austrian mountaineer, climber and member of the German expedition led by Karl Maria Heigelin mount karff.

There have been six deaths on mount k2. The most famous death happened August 2008 when nine mountaineers died in the mount k2 mountaineering disaster.
